Yoga Anatomy and Physiology

Yoga Anatomy and Physiology is 20-hour course that explores the ways muscles, bones, and connective tissues work together as the body practices yoga. A special emphasis is placed on the dynamics of particular types of poses, such as forward bending, backbending, twisting, balancing, and flowing. The particular benefits of meditation and relaxation are also explored in-depth.

Anyone interested in learning more about yoga anatomy and physiology is welcome to enroll in this course. You do not have to be enrolled in the full Yoga Teacher Training program in order to take this course. If you do decide to enroll in the full program, this course will fulfill the anatomy and physiology requirement.

Yoga Spirit Academy offers three anatomy and physiology courses. The Anatomy and Physiology Correspondence Course is an independent study presented in 10 modules, each taking approximately 2 hours to complete. After enrolling and paying $250 in tuition, a student receives the modules, either in print or by e-mail attachment. As they complete each module, the student returns them to their adviser for grading and feedback. When all 10 modules are complete, the student receives a certificate of completion. To enroll, fill out a Registration Form and Enrollment Agreement and return with payment to the school.

Anatomy for Yoga is a 2-day, 20-hour classroom course that costs $300. Students who attend the entire 20 hours will receive a certificate of completion. The next class will be held June 2 and 3, 2012. Please contact the Director to be placed on the mailing list for this course.

Advanced Anatomy for Yoga Teachers is a 25-hour course that combines 20 hours of classroom work and 5 hours of independent study. The course is designed for those who have completed one of the two basic anatomy courses and wish to delve more deeply into the biomechanics of the shoulders, hips, and spine; common injuries with an emphasis on anatomically safe movements; assisting and adjusting that is anatomically informed; and the anatomy of breathing.
