Prerequisite: 100 hours of documented yoga teacher training or 300 hours of documented yoga teaching

"Yoga Plus Pilates" 

February 1 - May 15, 2011

 

The exercise method developed by Joseph Pilates provides an amazing complement to the time-tested postures of yoga. As a mind-body practice, the Pilates method taps into the mental, emotional and spiritual aspects of exercise that are rarely uncovered in other exercise systems. With a focus on the “powerhouse,” the exercises strengthen muscles in the back, abdominals, gluteals and pelvic floor that create tremendous support for the standing and balancing postures of yoga. This course will provide

·         An overview of the history, theories and principles of Joseph Pilates

·         An exploration of the primary exercises that are part of the method

·         A comparison of Yoga and Pilates

·         An understanding of Pilates breathing exercises and anatomy that support the  method

·         An introduction to the props and apparatus used in the method

·         An opportunity to develop and teach sequences that incorporate both Yoga postures and Pilates exercises with integrity and safety
